Group 1: Isaac, Emma, Fiona, Nathi

The morning meeting took place as usual, in which we made our first contribution: informing the staff that we were doing our drama programme that morning.

Although the session began at 9am to end at 11am, the kids were settling into the day by completing drawing based worksheets for the first hour. We began the programme just past 10 o'clock with the outlook to make it short and sweet for the 25-30 kids involved. We started off with a game we had seen them play yesterday to start on a familiar yet relevant note. It became apparent that the best way to get attention for a game was to just begin it and people would join in; they didn't much fancy being asked for quiet. We then progressed onto introducing some of our own games, featuring "wink murder", "wah" and some rhythm games. The kids gave themselves a big round of applause at the end and the programme went down as a great success. So much so that we have been asked to do it again on Monday.

The rest of the morning was casual, mostly composed of teaching the "uno" card game to a few people and having a bit of fun playing it. We also helped serve food at lunch although it was not a taxing job.

The afternoon was more of the same - cards, pool and kick abouts. However it was fair to say that kids had warmed to us somewhat after our successful morning programme and were much more willing to play with us.

Group 2: Charis,Caitlin, Anna, Edee, Caragh

This morning we woke up feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep. Left Tekweni to get a Khumbi at 9am, but didn't manage to get one for about half an hour due to them all being over crowded.
We were to meet our friend Emmanuel at one of the Khumbi stops so he could lead us the rest of the way. When we met Emmanuel we got a Khumbi to his house and there we made sandwiches consisting of baloney and cheese for the kids at the creche.

We had a warm welcome when we arrived at the creche, and within minutes we all had a happy child in our arms. We played a few games with them including some South African songs they taught us. This went on for three hours until the kids went for their nap, and we were offered lovely lunch made by the creche workers. However it was ill-timed as one of our volunteer members was ill with what we think was food poisoning and really needed to go back to the hostel. With the food being too good to pass up, we quickly ate our lunch and headed back to Tekweni.

Despite the bad timing of our members illness, all in all we had a great day again.
