Alex

It seems ages since I updated my blog. I am now staying at the Laughing Dove with Mimo and Jane, the first Jabulani adult skills exchange people. It is vastly more comfortable but computer access is more limited and I miss my "wee peeps"!
They arrive on Friday. It was lovely to see them. Jane and Isaac, being Jewish, invited Mimo and I to spend the evening with them. It was lovely to be part of yet another cultural experience. On Saturday morning we whisked Mimo off to her first Khumbi "shock" and to Bobbi Bear. It was a wonderful morning. The students were brilliant, organising painting competitions and writing a play. Mimo had brought lots of football boots so everyone was so excited. We returned to Tekweni for a long overdue Strategy Meeting and in the evening had a welcome meeting for our two new colleagues. The rain started.
On Sunday we felt the effects of Cyclone Irena. It lashed down all day causing flooding and massive dislocation. I was concerned for the Forrester HS crew who were arriving that day but they got here safely and I had a hugely enjoyable dinner with my old friend Derek and his lovely staff and students before taking them to sample the delights of Tekweni and introduce them to the gang!
On Monday Momo and I went with Lucky to Umlazi to buy a sheep. We have agreed to help Lucky have his cleansing ceremony to let him make peace with his ancestors and to achieve closure after his mother's death. He has never been able afford this so it is massively important for him. We are all looking forward to joining him at the ceremony next Sunday. He is very special to all of us.
In the afternoon Mimo and I went to Ridge Park Secondary. Tilli the Principal had been at my presentaion the week before and wants me to do some staff development work and some classes. Mimo was invited to do a Creative Writing workshop with the Grade 12s.
