I didn't go with the students to Sisco on Monday as I had to prepare for my presentation to the Principals of schools in Themba's ward on Tuesday. I was asked to present on Effective Schools and Intelligent Leadership.
Tuesday came and at 9.00a.m I realised I had no clothes for my afternoon presentation. I dived in a cab to Musgrave Centre and bought trousers, shoes and a shirt. The whereabouts of my trousers and shoes .....its a long story! I rushed back to finalise my presentation. Isaac had agreed to be my ICT man so we met by the pool to check things over. MY PRESENTATION THEN BLEW INTO THE SWIMMING POOL!! I had one hour left. I love a bit of panic. And believe it or not Themba arrived early to take us to the venue, a school on Ridge Road.
The presentation was a great success. I really enjoyed meeting the Principals and I particularly loved being a bit controversial and provocative. They were very receptive to what I said and a number approached me afterwards to ask if I would do some staff development. I hope ths door is now open. I am grateful to Themba for the opportunity. There is a lot of frustration with the Directorate and I detected a low morale, but there was a genuine eagerness to learn more and for us to exchange ideas.
I went with the students the next day to Zwelibanzi for "gardening"c and Mangosuthu for their sessions on C.V's. They were brilliant. I am sure they will give a full account in their own blog.
At night we went to Moses Mabida stadium to see the SA v Senegal game. It should have been a victory for SA as they had over 90% possession but their finishing left a lot to be desired(listen to me talking about football). The atmosphere was fantastic in and out of the stadium but the rain was unwelcome I love the way I do things I would never do at home. Today I even went on the slides at a waterpark. I think I am regressing to my childhood!!!
Sounds like you had a busy day Alex. Well done one the presentation !!!
ReplyDeleteSounds as if you are having fun! Its great that you are able and willing to share your perceptions of leadership with school staff. I will want to pick your brains on your return!
