Alex

After the emotional turmoil of Lucky's ceremony, we headed to Hluhluwe and St Lucia for a welcome break. Mimo handled the Kafkaesque booking procedures for our Khumbi  and we set off early on Monday morning. We had decided to take Nthutuko as driver and Emmanuel and Lucky. They were so excited. As we headed North the rain became torrential. I feared for the Game Drive but miraculously the sun came out as we reached Hluhluwe. The park is in spectacularly beautiful scenery and although we did not see the much desired elephant, the rhinos, giraffes, baboons, warthogs and various antelopes kept us happy.
We headed for St Lucia after lunch at Hilltop Camp and found our hostel easily. First impressions were not good but after a little persistence we were offered much better accommodation and we were happy. The evening was relaxed and hugely enjoyable apart from an encounter with some racist Americans and we went to bed rather late.
Next day we did the estuary boat trip and saw crocodiles and hippos. What a glorious area of wetlands. Quite magical really. My last trip with my family had been marred by poor weather so this made up for it.
The afternoon was spent on the enormous St Lucia beach but we headed home early as Emma was ill. We are getting worried about our little one.
